Now, being from Europe, especially Germany, what sport do you think will I be in to?

You guessed that right: Football or Soccer, whatever you want to call it. A must see for me was how the Australians celebrate this awesome game. Therefore I went to see the local football team Brisbane Roar at the Suncorp Stadium, and what can I say, it's still the same game, but it's also so different from seeing a game back in Europe.

The main reason for that being, that it's sport number ONE back home, whereas Australians are more into Rugby and Cricket. Unfortunately the Rugby season only starts in March, when I will be back home in Germany, and since I don't understand Cricket, I skipped this sport I mean seriously, who watches this?

When the city of Brisbane itself is not enough for you, you always have the opportunity to go a little bit outside of the city to experience some other awesome stuff:. There is the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary with not only the opportunity to see various local wildlife, but also interacting with them, whether it is feeding wild lorikeets, feeding the kangaroos or even holding and cuddling a koala.

Just an unreal experience! Picture by Andrew Thomas - license. If this is not enough wildlife for you, you might think of visiting Australia Zoo , home of the legendary crocodile hunter Steve Irwin. Yep, you've heard that right. Irwin would usually get a little bit closer, but that was just the way he was, and why we all love him and what we'll remember him for.

Not enough yet? Don't you worry, plenty more to do. But my tour there is already booked, and this tour can't disappoint. The current culinary heat map leads to Fortitude Valley; chefs from around the country are flocking here to showcase flavours beyond the standard Australasian fare.

Neighbourhood restaurants of note include Joy, a nationally-acclaimed seater supper club-style restaurant dishing Nordic and Japanese plates, and Hellenika , a scenester restaurant-bar and Gold Coast outpost serving a fresh, no-fuss assortment of Greek classics like spanakopita , grilled octopus and cypriot meatballs.

Here, local art heroes — including indigenous talent — might share gallery space with works by Anish Kapoor and Damien Hirst. You might also like: Best free things to do in Brisbane. Originating from the Howard Smith Wharves area is The Brisbane Riverwalk , a half-mile long path floating above the river leading to the New Farm neighbourhood, and conveniently split with walking and bicycle lanes. Less than an hour and a half away from Brizzy by car, this is the ultimate day trip to get out of the city and experience everything from the Great Sandy National Park featuring the eponymous 40 Mile Beach to its subtropical hinterland with views of the Glass House Mountains , an eroded volcano complex.

Combining this natural wonderland with your trip to urban Brisbane is the perfect way to get the best of both worlds.
