The site at Bulstrode dates back to the medieval period. Over several centuries it was home to a series of grand families, before ending up in the hands of the Christian evangelical mission agency WEC International in the s.
This episode is based around a disused abbey that is believed to be cursed by an angry monk called Brother Jozef. Now two enterprising sisters are about to launch the Cursed Ale Microbrewery — but on the launch night, the curse appears to claim another victim when a body is found boiled to death in a kettle of beer. The first episode of series 21 aired on 21 January, and after a break from broadcasting for the NTAs, the second episode returns to ITV on Tuesday night.
The detective drama first aired in and has been loved ever since. And it's not just the gripping plot and talented cast of actors that make the show so popular; the picturesque backdrop to the show is what provides the show its charm.
The show is filmed in a number of towns across the British countryside and if you've ever wondered where specifically, then look no further. Here's all you need to know about the filming locations of Midsomer Murders. Oxfordshire provides a lot of the backdrop for Midsomer Murders. The ITV murder mystery programme is set in the fictional town Causton, located in fictional county Midsomer.
Although Causton isn't a real place, the idyllic towns used for the filming can still be enjoyed by visiting the different countryside towns if you're wanting to see the memorable places in real life.
The town of Causton, Midsomer, is created in the show by combining filming footage of different countryside towns located in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. The Oxfordshire towns of Thame and Wallingford are mostly used to represent Causton. The series is still going strong after 20 years with regular screenings, not only in the UK, but all over the world.
Fans of the detective series can pick up a free Midsomer Murders leaflet from the Town Hall Information Centre or Thame Museum during opening hours — check the Thame Museum website and discover all of the deadly locations around the town. Here you can also purchase a wide variety of Midsomer Murder themed books and gifts. To ensure that visitors to Thame aka Causton have as enjoyable an experience as possible, 21 st Century Thame has organised regular Midsomer tours which are led by specially trained Midsomer tour guides.
They take place weekly between April and October on Wednesdays at 2. Each tour starts outside Thame Town Hall , one of the filming locations and takes in all the varied locations in the town centre. Please note that, in line with the Coronavirus regulations, a maximum of five persons can book for each guided Midsomer Walking Tour. See How to book a tour below for important booking information.
It was really interesting how it mixes real history with facts about the show, and what a beautiful town! Alan was a wonderful guide — very warm and considerate, and of course brimming with knowledge.
The photo opportunity outside Causton Town Hall at the end was a particularly lovely touch. I will definitely be recommending it to any Midsomer Murders fans I know. A 5-person max per tour is in place while current restrictions are in force — two tours are possible each Wednesday, taking 5 people per tour.
